Oahu, HI (Sunday, December 25, 2016) – Over 60,000 Seniors are living in or near poverty, over 50,000 Seniors live alone, and over 40,000 Seniors in Hawaii are struggling to feed themselves. Lanakila Pacific presented Christmas on Wheels. Lanakila Kitchen prepared meals for our kupuna that included mini pork lau lau, chicken long rice, kalua turkey and cabbage, haupia, sweet potato slice and pineapple juice. Through Lanakila’s Meals on Wheels program, over 200 volunteers prepared and delivered over 700 meals to Homebound Seniors across Oahu.
Along with the meals, gift bags were dropped off, which were donated by individuals and organizations that include Nan, Inc., Island Insurance, Walmart, Punahou School, Paris Green School, Department of Health – PHN, Holomua Elementary School, Hawaii Epsilon Chapter Alpha Delta Kappa, Our Savior Lutheran School and Lehua Elementary.” For the first time ever, Lanakila Pacific raised enough in-kind donations to provide a Christmas gift to every kupuna signed up with us. Both Hawaii News Now and KHON came out to cover the event.
