Hawaii has one of the fastest growing senior populations and the longest life expectancy in the nation, yet the base funding for Lanakila Meals on Wheels has remained flat for over twelve years. At the same time, Hawaii’s senior population continues to increase.
To raise awareness and galvanize support for Lanakila Meals on Wheels, hundreds of kupuna, elected officials and community supporters join the annual March for Meals rally at the Hawaii State Capitol. March for Meals is a nationwide event that takes place every March to call attention to senior hunger.
Hawaii’s march puts focus on the need for continued support by the federal and state government, local community organizations and businesses and individual donors to continue to provide meals, friendly visits and emotional support to the over 2,700 seniors who rely on Lanakila Meals on Wheels.
The 2019 March for Meals was held at the Hawaii State Capitol Rotunda on March 19th at 9:00AM.
