MEALS ON WHEELS

Since 1971, we’ve been hard at work to ensure no kupuna goes hungry. What started as a lunch wagon at Aala Park has transformed into the program that feeds hundreds of seniors each year. Our fully cooked, frozen meals are ready when you are – just warm them in the microwave when it's time to eat!

Our Meals

Self-sufficiency comes in different forms, but for many, our meals are their key to living safely at home. We’re proud of our USDA-compliant meals, which reflect the local flavors that we all love.

How it Works

Eligibility
Meal service is typically available to homebound individuals ages 60 and older who cannot shop for or prepare their own meals, spouses who are primary caregivers in need of respite, and younger individuals with disabilities in the household.
Payment
You may be eligible through the City & County Aging and Disability Resource Center or your health insurance provider for free meal services. If you do not qualify for free coverage, you can purchase the meals via credit/debit card, online pay, check or SNAP EBT card for $8.50 each.
Delivery
Our volunteers deliver meals once a week. We deliver island-wide, no matter where you live on Oahu. Someone must be home to accept the deliveries, which typically take place Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I request my meals to be delivered on a certain day of the week?

Typically, meals are delivered on specific days based on the neighborhood. Please contact us to see if we can meet your request.

What if I won’t be home to accept the delivery?

Please contact us to let us know you will not be home.

What comes in a meal?

Each meal contains an entrée, starch, vegetable, fruit, wheat bread, fortified margarine spread, and low-fat milk.

Do you offer medically-specific meals?

We offer textured meals–pureed, minced and chopped—for those who have difficulty chewing or swallowing. We do not currently provide specific diets such as vegetarian or renal. If you are in need of a medical diet, please talk to your doctor about if our meals are right for you.

Do you offer temporary meal services?

Yes! Meals are especially helpful during a recovery period, like after you’re discharged from the hospital, or when a caregiver needs a break. If you only want a few days or a week’s worth of meals, contact us about purchasing and picking up meals.

What if I don't eat certain meals?

For those who don’t eat certain meals—for example, if you don’t eat pork—we are able to make substitutions. Note this will result in less overall variety within your menu.
